ALLIANCES 2019 13 Efficient Service Delivery – a consortium of UK housebuilder and construction firm Galliford Try with US firms Stantec Treatment and Black & Veatch – is Scottish Water's non-infra- structure alliance partner. As such, ESD oversees delivery of work on reservoirs, water treatment works and pumping stations, among other projects in the region. Scottish Water announced in September that it was going to invest almost £10 million to upgrade water infrastructure in Shetland over the next two years, with ESD carrying out the work. This initiative will include a £6 million scheme to replace two steel storage tanks for drinking water at Staney Hill with a twin-compartment tank with greater capacity at Sandy Loch Water Treatment Works. A 3km-long gravity pipeline will connect the new tank to the existing network and a further £1.7 million will be spent installing a gravity filter at Sandy Loch and refurbishing existing filters. Elsewhere, work continued into 2018 on the £22 million Nereda wastewater treatment works, with the main structure now in place in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire. A sewer main has also been installed. A major project to upgrade a water treatment works on Orkney got underway this year. The Sanday scheme has been split into two phases – refur- bishment of the settling tanks and filtration system followed by upgrade of the system control facilities at the site. Local MP Jamie Stone visited a project being carried out by ESD and Coffey Construction near Evanton in the Scottish Highlands in July. Work to build a new tank with a capacity to store up to 8 million litres of drinking water is expected to complete in early 2019. In October, the alliance started work on the first phase of a £21 million project to provide a single, improved water supply for Fort Augustus and Glenmoriston.
