18 | 29TH JUNE - 5TH JULY 2018 | UTILITY WEEK Operations & Assets High viz If you've driven into Leeds on the M1 or A63 lately, you may have seen this large, golf-ball-like object. Yorkshire Water is not trying to create a mini Epcot (that's a Florida theme park with a similar looking structure, for those not in the know), but is instead building a gas bag. It is part of the company's £72 million construction of the new Knostrop Sludge Treatment Facility, which is due to be completed in 2020. Methane produced from sludge treatment will be stored in the bag, with up to 3,700 cubic metres of gas stored at any one time. This gas will then be turned into electricity to help power the plant. The facility will begin processing in August, and once fully operational later this year will Poo power drives green ambitions
