S ource One Environmental (S1E) staged a Trenchless Technology Open Day on 13 June at its new headquar- ters, which showcased a host of innovative products and solutions many of which had never been seen before in the UK. The products displayed included: The LED curing sys- tem from Bluelight, which cuts curing time; cost-effective, robust robotic cameras from Chinese manufacturer Trio-Vi- sion; the nUVision UV curing system from IST; Schwalm robotic cutters including a range of tools developed with A rqiva has announced that it has completed an extension to its smart water metering fixed network trial for Anglian Water. Con- ducted in partnership with Sen- sus, a Xylem brand, the new trial network in Norwich is part of Anglian Water's plans for a long-term smart metering pro- gramme, and uses the Sensus FlexNet two-way communica- tion fixed network solution across Arqiva's dedicated network. In partnership with utility technology provider Sensus, the three-year contract will see S cottish Water is under- taking the world's first long-term trial of Arvia's Nyex treatment system on drinking water at a specially established pilot plant in West Lothian. The trial, which will run separately to the existing water treatment works at Pate- shill, will assess the effective- ness of the system in removing organic material from raw water. Nyex is a tertiary treat- ment system that combines adsorption with oxidation in a Picote; Picote's new brush coating system; and Rioned's brand new Urbanjet compact van system. "Both exhibitors and visitors alike came from far and wide for demonstrations of the cut- ting-edge technology we had on show, which we distribute across the UK & Ireland," managing director Glenn Car- tledge said. "The response from the drainage industry in the UK and further afield has been phenomenal. This event has positioned S1E ready for the next step in our growth," he continued. Arqiva build and operate the fixed network infrastructure to facilitate the deployment and operation of around 11,000 new smart water meters in and around Norwich. Sensus smart water meters covering both residential and non-residen- tial properties will transmit hourly usage readings via FlexNet, across the Arqiva net- work, back to Anglian Water. The data will enable Anglian Water to better understand customer water consumption, and to quickly identify unu- sual patterns of use that might indicate a burst or a leak. process that has many poten- tial applications in water and wastewater processing. In municipal water applications, the main advantage of Arvia's Nyex over granular activated carbon filters is the elimina- tion of waste – cutting the cost of having to dispose of waste solids to landfill. The Scottish Water trial is focused on estab- lishing whether Nyex could have an application on hard- to-treat water with a high con- tent of organic material. WHAT IS IT FOR? In the UK, a number of workers are killed or seriously injured in confined spaces across a wide of hazardous industries each year. Danger can arise when there is a lack of oxygen or if workers are suddenly faced with poisonous gas, fumes or vapours. Breathing apparatus is essential in a situation in which the air is compromised. WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT IT? HEAD30 provides 30 minutes' oxygen supply – double the amount offered by the HEAD15 Escape Set – but remains lightweight at only 1.5kg, allowing the wearer to move about easily. The HEAD30 is designed to be quick and easy to don and remove, while the hood provides panoramic vision and contains an integral audio- visual alarm that improves user safety. An integral oro-nasal mask provides the face seal and with instant oxygen supply on start-up, the HEAD30 starts to work as soon as it is put on, therefore increasing the worker's chance of survival and a safe escape. HOW LONG DOES IT LAST? The set boasts a 12-year no- maintenance shelf life, with only a six- and nine-year validation check, as the HEAD30 is sealed in nitrogen, preserving its integrity while increasing its cost effectiveness. Dräger Pac single-gas monitors With Pac 6000, 6500, 8000 and 8500, Dräger now offers a new series of personal single-gas moni- tors. The monitors detect not only the standard gases carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), sulfur dioxide (SO2) and oxygen (O2), but also ozone, phosgene and nitrogen dioxide. Pac 8500 is also available with a dual sensor for H2S/CO or O2/CO, and a hydrogen-compensated CO sensor. This significantly reduces the influence of hydrogen on the indication of carbon monoxide. Users can choose between 18 long-life sensors for up to 33 gases. The industrial battery used in the monitors enables a service life of two years without a battery change. Globus SHOWA 4561 The SHOWA 4561 is the latest safety glove from hand protection specialist Globus. Tested to the new EN388: 2016 standard delivering level D cut resistance, the new 4561 also features ZORB-IT technology to offer stronger grip in oily conditions due to an extra absorbent nitrile coating. The combination of features makes it ideally suited to workers in the oil and gas, utilities and engineering sectors where there are significant cut hazards. It also offers abrasion and contact heat resistance while also replicating the hands' natural curves for easy movement and comfortable, continuous wear. The breathable 15-gauge liner allows warm air and moisture from inside to escape. DuPont Tychem TK suits Worn with a self-contained breathing apparatus, gas-tight suit Tychem TK provides an effective barrier against more than 300 chemicals. It is specifically designed for situations where there is immediate danger to life and health. Protecting against toxic and corrosive gases, liquids and solid chemicals, the garment is suitable for industrial, emergency response and domestic preparedness applications. Wearers can choose either the front-entry Tychem TK 614T or the rear-entry TK615T option. Both suit variants feature an adaptive gloves system, with excellent resistance to permeation by chemicals and a high degree of protection against mechanical hazards.
