Scottish Water has tunnelled under a
railway line near Kilmarnock as part
of a £120 million project to install a
new water main that will serve more
than 200,000 people.
Caledonia Water Alliance used a
state-of-the-art tunnel boring machine
to install a 132m-long, 1,500mm
diameter concrete tunnel beneath the
Kilmarnock to Dumfries railway line
near Whinpark Farm.
The work was completed ahead of
schedule and without any disruption
to rail services. The tunnel consists
