NETWORK / 29 / MAY 2018 electricity networks in Great Britain - Vattenfall Networks Ltd. Operations are expected to start this year. Vattenfall Networks' operat- ing licence was granted by Brit- ish energy regulator Ofgem. Dawson said: "If we're not open to innovation, competitors will be. As DNOs transitioning to DSOs we have to look and be open to innovation. "We need to be thinking 30, 40 or 50 years ahead as to what Steve Vick International, in partnership with Wales & West Utilities, has developed SMARTester - a fully integrated wireless pressure testing system for smart metering, upstream and downstream of the meter. The SMARTester system provides a searchable bank of defi nitive test evidence, giving reassurance of absolute traceability. The process starts with the highly accurate stainless-steel pressure sensor which sends data wirelessly to the intuitive app. Here competency can be driven with a choice of industry specifi c tests that guide engineers through the process. Every step of the test is recorded, ensuring engineers are confi dent that their good practice can be verifi ed. Then test evidence including photos, GPS location and calibration certifi cates, are sent securely to the cloud-based dashboard. Once signed in, a user can instantly search an abundance of test evidence, allowing for greater test analysis and minimising compliance investigation time. The dashboard can also be used to remotely manage teams by monitoring monthly statistics, real-time workforce analytics and schedule jobs. SMARTester is much more than 'just' a pressure gauge. It is the total confi dence that tests are highly accurate, safe and evidence is instantly traceable. Established in 1981, Steve Vick International is a major supplier to the gas distribution networks. Many of the techniques and foam sealant products pioneered by SVI, has helped networks improve customer service, deliver cost savings and enhance safety. He had the following advice for attendees: "With innovation, not everything works rst time. Don't be afraid of failure. You can learn from it and move on." This mindset will help play a part in ensuring that innovation becomes business as usual. For a full list of presentations see: https://event.networks.online/fu- ture/speaker-presentations/ Views from the speakers: "It is very important to keep electricity affordable for the end user." Jean Yves Bodin, director for energy digital solutions, Schneider Electric. "If we want to improve incrementally we need to compete. If we want to improve exponentially we need to collaborate." Tony Voss, energy director, Costain. "At the moment around two per cent of electrical energy utilised around the world is going to data centres." Michael Weinhold, CTO energy management, Siemens. "Operating our network is changing. We've got new dimensions in this whole multi-vector integrated energy approach." Chris Clarke, director of asset management & HSE, Wales & West Utilities.
