The first offshore substation topside
was successfully installed last week
at Orsted's Hornsea Project One wind
farm, 120km off the Yorkshire coast.
Weighing 2,800 tonnes, the sub
station, Z12, was installed on its sup
port by Semco Maritime's crane vessel
Saipem 7000.
The Z12 offshore substation is one
of three that will collect electricity
from the windfarm's 174 turbines and
transform it to a higher voltage so it
can be exported to shore with fewer
losses.
