LEADERS 2018 9 Amey remains in stable position AMEY The Sherard Building Edmund Halley Road Oxford OX4 4DQ Tel: 01865 713100 www.amey.co.uk THE LEADERS 2018 Amey, which has a £2.2 billion turnover and is owned by Spain's Ferrovial, posted an operating loss of £15.8 million in 2016, in what bosses described as a "challenging" year marked by a significant loss in its highways division. However, the utilities arm of the firm, which turns over £1.1 billion and made an operating profit of £36.9 million, remained in a stable and relatively strong position. Amey is carrying out projects worth around £100 million for Scottish Water during its current regulatory period, which runs until 2021; it was the only contractor to gain places on both the civil engineering and mechanical and electrical sections of the SR15 Managed Delivery Framework. The company is the sole provider for metering and developer services across Severn Trent Water's network, as well as delivering sewer upgrades, clean water mains renewal and maintenance, flood alleviation projects and installing new or refurbishing existing pumping stations. Amey also has a £125 million contract to provide wastewater services for Yorkshire Water, under which it repairs and maintains around 20,000 miles of sewer pipe across Yorkshire. Its other major utilities clients include United Utilities, Welsh Water and Affinity Water. Notably, the company is the systems integration contractor for the Thames Tideway Tunnel, and is responsible for providing process control and communication equipment and so–ware systems for operation, maintenance and reporting across the 25km tunnel and sewer system once commissioned. Its utilities division is led by MD Kevin Fowlie. Amey, which has over 19,000 staff, is one of the lead partners on the Energy & Utilities Skills Partnership, an initiative aimed at creating a resilient and sustainable workforce for the utilities sector.
