The deal – which was signed last year – will see Sykes provide both submersible and diesel pumps for hire on an exclusive basis until at least 2019; with a view to extending it further. In the majority of cases, South West Water will be requiring pumps to facilitate the mainte- nance and repair of their own units stationed at pumping sta- tions throughout the region. Other scenarios will necessi- tate the immediate availability of pumps to help carry out reser- voir water transfers and effluent overpumping schemes – with Sykes Pumps well-versed in over- seeing both tasks. An important key performance indicator stipulated within the agreement was the guarantee that technical assistance and/or replacement equipment will be on site within four hours of a problem being reported. As a company with a genuine capability for conducting opera- tions 24 hours a day, Sykes Pumps are able to not only meet these conditions but actually exceed the expectations of the client in times of need. Chris Graham, sales director, explains: "Promising quality equipment and service overseen South West Water retain Sykes Pumps with long- term tender Having worked alongside South West Water since 2008, it is with great delight that Sykes Pumps confirm a sole supplier Pump Hire framework agreement with one of the UK's most prominent water companies. by experienced engineers was crucial in this case, giving the cli- ent reinforced confidence that we can and will deliver to the high standards they expect." By manufacturing their own guide rail adaptors, Sykes have ensured that their impressive range of submersible units are compatible with South West Water's own equipment – simplify- ing the transition if and when the need for a replacement arises. The use of guide rail installa- tions sometimes creates a chal- lenge in terms of having pumps to match the installed coupling system. In order to negate this issue, Sykes have developed their own guide rail adaption kits to make their fleet truly univer- sal. By taking this step, they ensure that pumps can easily replace whichever type of sew- age pump is being decommissioned. This level of resourcefulness, flexibility and competence was key to Sykes Pumps retaining a lucrative contract with one of the water sector's big players, and in doing so also preserving a strong presence across Devon and Cornwall. 0800 211 611 At Sykes Pumps we possess the broadest range of equipment available, from general purpose pumps to silenced, submersible and high performance units. Designed to alleviate water pollution, the product removes the presence of sediment and similarly abrasive contaminants from water before it is reintro- duced into natural watercourses. In recent times, we have seen various examples of companies incurring substantial fines cou- pled with negative publicity for failing to submit to tightening legislation. The most severe cases have even led to site closures – but this can be easily avoided by taking the necessary precautions. Typically deployed in scenar- ios where water is pumped from ground sources, the Silt Away fil- ters water through its system via an internal Lamella platebox. Sol- ids contained within the fluid then drop into a discharge cham- ber below, ensuring water at the outsource is significantly cleaner and largely free of sediment. Once full, this compartment can be emptied at ground level while the unit is still running, ren- dering it perfect for applications where continuous operation is required. In heavily contaminated situa- tions, users have the option of connecting two Sykes Silt Away units in series to ensure that the discharge is sufficiently cleansed. Given that the implications of ecological negligence are so far- reaching, it's unsurprising that all Silt Away units within the Sykes Pumps hire fleet quickly found themselves on hire. This incredible popularity has prompted the business to invest in additional units – increasing their availability across the UK. Reflecting on their success, Sykes Pumps sales director Chris Graham, said: "We listened to our customer base and have intro- duced a product that is both safe and easy to use. Understanding the growing demand for environ- mental equipment was a crucial factor in the Silt Away being brought to market, and we've since had to go back and order more." Complying with all industry regulations, the Rapid Response pump negates the need for delivery lorries, tachographs and - perhaps most importantly -any additional manpower. Comprising of a power pack, pump end and a set of hydraulic hoses, the Hydraset 80 has been designed for deployment in a multitude of surroundings where electricity is unavailable. The Sykes GP8O eco pump is amongst the industry's most durable and easily-manoeuvred models, simplifying the movement and redeployment at different points of a working site.
