What makes me say that? Well you only need to look through the pages of this month's edition of Network to see the breadth and depth of innovation on o• er. Innovation will help drive the sector forward and ensure that the operators are prepared to meet the changing demands put on the gas and electricity networks. Over the past few weeks I've made an e• ort to get in front of many industry professionals as possible. Thanks to all those that have taken the time to see me so far. The recurring message that I've heard is that it's an extremely exciting time to be joining the sector. That's good to hear and we're working on some things to ensure that as the market changes we're in pole position to re- ect what's happening. As I said in my ‚ rst leader, it is our job to ensure that we highlight the good work taking place across the sector. We can do this through the pages of the magazine and on our website, but ultimately we need you to let us know what's happening. We'll be guided by you, the experts, as you're the ones who are at the coalface. In this month's issue, David Smith, chief executive of the Energy Networks Association, takes a look back at 2017. Innovation is at the forefront of his mind, with Smith commenting: "Network innovation in our sector means that the UK is rapidly emerging as a world leader in developing the smarter gas and electricity networks that will lay the foundations for our energy future." The word 'future' is key here. In order to keep moving forward, the sector can't spend too long dwelling on past innovations. If it does that then it will get le behind. Something tells me that that won't happen. forward, the sector can't spend too long dwelling on past innovations. If it does that then it will get le behind.
