24 Innovation October 2017 Water Reuse: Drivers, Innovations and Public Perceptions The survey, Water Reuse: Drivers, Innovations and Public Perceptions, was conducted through an online questionnaire during the four weeks to 19 July 2017. The aim of the survey was to generate and then to share insights on a range of topics on water reuse markets globally, based on the knowledge and perceptions of professionals working in water reuse and desalination. Responses were solicited through an email campaign to readers of Water. desalination + reuse quarterly, and desalination.biz's weekly email newsletter, as well as from a wider list of professionals working in desalination and water reuse globally. In total, 347 respondents participated in the survey. The completion rate was 69 per cent, and the average time taken to complete the 21 questions was 10 minutes. Respondents indicated which type of organisation they work for, and their level of seniority. Those working in engineering firms or consultancies represented 36.31 per cent of respondents, while 22.48 per cent work for a technology company, OEM, or systems integrator. The remaining 41.21 per cent work for a variety of organisation types within water reuse and/ or desalination, either for municipalities, industrial plant owners or operators, developers, research organisations or academia, or at investors or others such as water retailers, suppliers and media outlets. Those in a chief/ head of department, or director role represented 47.55 of respondents, while those in technical or engineering jobs at a senior or other level comprised 25.07 per cent. The remaining 27.38 per cent were board directors, as well as sales and business development personnel, researchers, and various types of industry consultant. Respondents were asked to indicate which region(s) and sector(s) their roles apply to.
