OCTOBER 2017 WET NEWS 15 The Aqua-Swirl achieved 80% removal of total suspended sol- ids under eld test conditions, where a large unit was installed to allow for infrequent but large storm events. When smaller units are installed to treat more frequent, smaller rainfall events, removal e• ciencies of 50% can be achieved. The Aqua-Swirl achieved 80% removal of total suspended solids under • eld test conditions The SDS Aqua-Filter combines sediment removal and • ltration in one high-performance device The Aqua-Swirl hydrodynamic vortex separator can capture several tonnes of polluted sediment which is then easily removed THE CONCEPT • Hydrodynamic separators, such as the SDS Aqua-Swirl, protect ponds, wetlands and basins by removing gross pollutants, floating oils & debris. • Over half of the copper and zinc in runo‰ is likely to be in the suspended solids and will be removed by the device. • Hydrocarbons such as Benzo(a)Pyrene will 'stick' to the suspended solids and be captured by the device. • For the protection of really sensitive environments, stormwater • lters such as Aqua-Filter can remove soluble pollutants and • ne particles. NEED TO KNOW 1 Aqua-Swirl stores up to 5 tonnes of contaminated sediment 2 Removes up to 80% of suspended solids with no moving parts 3 Captures oils and floating debris 4 Treats flow rates up to 248l/s per unit 5 Light and easy-to-manoeuvre plastic construction The SDS Aqua-Filter is a down-- ow device that gives vor- tex separation and stormwater ltration to deliver reliable removal of suspended solids and soluble pollutants together. It can treat - ows of up to 160l/s in a small footprint. ■ Jo Bradley is market development manager at SDS.
