The final wind turbine was installed
at Rampion offshore windfarm this
month.
Since the first turbine was
installed in early March, two jack-up
vessels – MPI Discovery and MPI
Adventure – have worked tirelessly
to install 116 turbines, transporting
the components for eight turbines at
a time from Esbjerg in Denmark to
the site 13km off the Sussex coast.
Each turbine consists of an 80m
tower weighing about 200 tonnes,
which has been lied and positioned
onto each foundation; a nacelle fitted
to the top of each tower, which houses
the generator and gearbox; and three
55m-long blades.
The lay and burial of 112km of
array cables has also been completed.
