The facility at Knostrop, which is likely to take until 2019 to complete, will be able to process 131 tonnes of dry sludge a day, which will enable it to recycle 94 per cent of the city's sewage sludge. The tallest structure in Leeds – a 123m-high wind turbine – was built at the Knostrop site in 2014 and provides around 10 per cent of its energy needs.
