The worst drought conditions for more
than 100 years have combined with steep
population growth in Cape Town to result
in a severe water shortage. The number
of people living in the city is expected to
hit 4.3 million by 2030, a rise of 60 per cent
compared to 2.7 million in 2000, according
to The World's Cities in 2016, published by
the United Nations. The rise in capacity of
the city's system of dams is not anticipated to
keep pace.
