UTILITY WEEK | 7TH - 13TH JULY 2017 | 5 Tideway has launched a public vote to name the six machines that will dig the Thames Tideway Tunnel. A shortlist has been created, inspired by some of history's most pioneering women who lived or worked in London. The vote runs until the end of July, before tunnelling begins next year on the 25km sewer tunnel that will help tackle sewage pollution in the River Thames. ELECTRICITY UKPN maps undergrounded cables The country's largest electricity distributor, UK Power Networks, has launched an online map to show where it has removed more than 160km of overhead cables and moved them underground. The investment in moving the cables has helped restore many historic views. UKPN's interactive map highlights the extent of the work in areas of outstanding natural beauty and national parks. The map, which took just ten weeks from concept to final product for the project team to deliver, also encourages members of the public to suggest which other power lines could be considered for movement underground in UKPN's licence area, which spans the southeast and east of England. £54m Cadent (formerly National Grid Gas Distribution) will refund £54 million of its spending allowances for the 2013-21 price control. The waiver was offered after the gas distributor decided to postpone part of a mains replacement programme in cental London. Ofwat scheduled to publish its draft framework for the 2019 price control. "Ofgem's watered down proposals go nowhere near the promise made by the prime minister to adopt Labour's principle of a price cap" Rebecca Long-Bailey, shadow business secretary, following publication of Ofgem's proposed remedies for consumer detriment in the energy market. Ofwat Ofwat has appointed two new mem- bers to its senior management team. Emma Kelso will become senior director of customers and casework, and Lisa Commane will become senior director of business improvement. Both appointments take effect in September. United Utilities United Utilities has named a new chief operating officer. Steve Fraser will take up the position from 1 August. He is currently man- aging director of United Utilities Water's wholesale business. APPOINTMENTS The Committee on Climate Change's annual report to parliament has highlighted the most pressing risks the UK faces from climate change.
