16 LEADERS 2017 BAM NuttAll St James House Knoll Road Camberley Surrey Gu15 3XW t: 01276 63484 www.bamnuttall.co.uk the LeADeRS 2017 BAM Nuttall, part of the Dutch-based Royal BAM Group, says it has performed well having achieved group expectations in terms of profitability and turnover. The company has continued to develop its business in several key sectors such as rail and flood alleviation, with projects spread widely across the UK. The company says its Waste and Environment (WEM) contract with the Environment Agency continues to deliver a steady work stream with awards across the whole of England. BAM Nuttall's focus is to secure a "good quality order intake". Its order book has reduced but remains in a healthy state with a number of significant awards including the HS2 enabling works contract. This was also helped with major project awards from Severn Trent Water giving a boost to Barhale's 2016/17 order book. Dennis Curran, chairman, says 2016 represented a year of "satisfactory progress" as AMP6 frameworks started to deliver the volumes expected at tender stage. However, it was a disappointing year for BTU, the joint venture between Barhale and Trant. Having gained an extended geographical area on its Southern Water contract, its workload was less than expected as a result of the phasing and roll-out of projects. During the year, Barhale started work on the Elan Valley Aqueduct project for AMP6 workloads picking up, says Barhale Severn Trent Water. The project was the first of three that Barhale has secured with Severn Trent, the others involving the Birmingham Resilience project and the Newark Water & Wastewater Improvement scheme. The projects are worth £180M in total, of which £120M is being undertaken in joint venture through the BNM Alliance. Curran says Barhale's "future prospects are encouraging" with continued volume improvement under AMP6. Some of the frameworks have the potential to extend over 15 years, while the Severn Trent schemes will continue into 2019. The group had also been pursuing opportunities arising from long-term civil engineering projects and blue-chip clients such as the Tideway tunnel and Silvertown tunnel. tHE NuMBERS 2014 14/15 15/16 % CHANGE Sales £M 60.2 95.2 80.9 -15 Gross profit £M 6.4 8.4 9.9 18 Operating profit £M 2.2 0.8 0.7 -6 Pre-tax profit £M 2.0 1.0 0.2 -84 Staff 778 654 578 -12 Net assets £M 7.5 7.7 7.7 -0 tHE RAtIOS 2014 14/15 15/16 % CHANGE 5yr AVE. BAM Nuttall was also appointed to a multimillion- pound AMP6 framework with South East Water (SEW) in joint venture with Nomenca during the year. The deal entails delivering the water company's non-infrastructure major works for the next five years, with an option to extend for a further ten years. The latest framework sees the continuation and development of the current collaborative client and contractor working partnership.
