People & Opinion Utility Week community UTILITY WEEK | 30TH JUNE - 6TH JULY 2017 | 7 Skills Partnership UKPN chief executive Basil Scarsella has been named as the new chair of the Energy & Utility Skills Partnership. He succeeds outgoing Eon UK chief executive Tony Cocker, who held the role since the Skills Partnership's formation last summer. Scarsella said: "I am delighted and honoured to take on this role, as I appreciate how important it is to develop a sustainable workforce in an industry that is essential to meet people's everyday needs." Cocker added: "Basil Scarsella takes over as chair at a time of increased recognition of the significant contribution the sector can make to increased growth and productivity. I've no doubts that he'll lead the Skills Partnership to build on these early successes and I wish him the best of luck." Companion of Honour Lord Stern The economist and academic is honoured for services to economics, international relations and tackling climate change. CBEs Nicholas Baldwin The chair of the Office for Nuclear Regulation was honoured for services to nuclear safety and security and to the charitable sector. Queen's birthday honours A number of people in the utilities sector were named in the Queen's birthday honours list this month Humphrey Cadoux-Hudson The managing director of Nuclear New Build Generation Company, EDF Energy, was honoured for services to secure low-carbon electricity. Kerry Mashford The chief executive of the National Energy Foundation was honoured for services to the energy industry. Maria McCaffery The former chief executive of Renewable UK, who already holds an MBE, was honoured for services to the renewable energy sector. Hugo Robson The chief commercial negotiator at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy was honoured for services to low-carbon electricity security. MBEs Junier Browne The former senior adviser at the Environment Agency was honoured for services to the environment, diversity and the community in Leeds. Jill Cainey The chief executive of Electricity Storage Network was honoured for services to energy technology and the community in Wiltshire. BEM Rachel Hayes The head of membership and events at Regen SW was honoured for services to women in the energy sector. Research from Dectech reveals women feel more negatively about climate change than men, while the under-40s are less apathetic than the over-40s. The firm is calling for environmental campaigners to focus on these more engaged groups in efforts to tackle global warming. "Younger people show a stronger negative emotional response to climate change than over-40s, which may be because they recognise that global warm- ing will have a significant impact in their lifetime," Dectech direc- tor Henry Stott said. "While older people are less likely to say they feel confused than their children or grandchildren, this may convey their disengage- ment from the topic – expressed as apathy – rather than a higher level of understanding." He added: "Though business leaders are an important target, adopting a grassroots approach to change may help increase the impact of campaigners' efforts. Millennials may be considered precious snowflakes by some, but the future of the ice caps might be in their hands." The top five responses to the survey question are shown in the table below.
