JUNE 2017 WET NEWS 17 THE CONCEPT • Powerful, fast-acting crystalline powder for more effective treatment of bio-fouling • Improved physical properties that sustain cleaning reactions down the borehole for consistent removal of heavy iron/manganese oxide deposits • Special formulation produced and batched in the UK under an ISO 9001 QA system, ensuring reliable supply and fast availability • Organic & environment-safe product - neutralised once it has reacted with the iron or manganese • Two easy-to-use systems: I-GON3 for insitu downhole cleaning I-GON2 for component cleaning NEED TO KNOW 1 Easy dosing, fast working cleaning agent that restores borehole performance with minimised downtime 2 Regain in pump output seen within as little as 30 minutes 3 Boreholes can be treated overnight and resume full operation the next day 4 Supplied as crystalline powder which dissolves iron related bacteria deposits in solution and is simply pumped from the borehole on completion 4 Suitable for the cleaning of drilling and test pumping equipment to avoid bacterial cross contamination at a new project THE VERDICT "The Golf Club were very impressed with the improvement and we'll certainly be using I-GON3 in the future" Darren Hogben, director of HWS, on seeing a gain of 600% in pump output after an overnight clean of a 40m-plus borehole. competing systems and in a unique formulation that sustains cleaning action throughout the borehole. Chemical reactions take effect within minutes, releasing controlled cleaning that lasts longer and penetrates deeper to remove iron-related bacteria as well as rust, scale and stubborn deposits. In some cases, a significant improvement in the flow from the borehole has been seen within ten to 15 minutes. The product is totally biodegradable and safe for disposal once neutralised, and does not react with or damage any metallic or man-made material. For user convenience, two crystalline preparations are available tailored around distinct cleaning needs: •I-GON2isafast-actingtwo- part crystalline powder for the 'bench' cleaning of valves and other pump components contaminated with iron / manganese oxide deposits •I-GON3combinesthreetypes of modified crystal that control the solubility of the product as it works down the borehole – resulting in an enhanced and consistent clean throughout. It is intended for the in-situ cleaning of the complete borehole (with system offline) or of removed assembly parts before re-installation. In both forms, I-GON falls outside the scope of DWI Regulation31(October1,2015 revision) and is safe for drinking well applications when used strictly in accordance with instructions. It is constituted, blended and packed in England to ISO 9001 QM systems, offering assured, reproducible product quality as well as improved availability to the UK borehole market. In the field The new formula is already making a positive impact in the field. AttheRoyalBlackheathGolf Club, it saved the cost and effort of replacing a clogged pump and rising main in a troublesome irrigation borehole. Kent-based first-time user HWS was delighted with the results as director HWS director Darren Hogben explains: "We have been dealing with the Royal BlackheathGolfClubforsome time and they were experiencing problems with their borehole as the flow was slowly decreasing. The water is stored in a tank adjacent to the borehole before irrigating the course. "On inspection, we found that the pump and rising main were clogged with iron ochre. Rather than choosing to replace the pump and rising main, we decided to try cleaning the system. We used I-GON3 and within minutes the water started to change to a green colour indicating that the chemical was reacting with the iron. The water was circulated for an hour and then le– to stand overnight. The next day the borehole was pumped out and showed an amazing improvement in flow. The flow beforewestartedwas0.5m3/h and a–er the clean it had increasedto3.3m3/h." Another customer who used I-GONforboreholeremediation says: "A–er two hours, the pump was circulating water at easily double the flow compared to when we started. A er 24 hours, the flow had increased back to levels similar to when thepumpwasbrandnew." Sound maintenance routines are strongly recommended to allow for timely detection of bacterial activity before bio- fouling takes hold. Routine checks, using proprietary products like Proquip's BART Test Kit, will signal the presence of problematic bacteria in the water source before it has time to grow and spread.
