The awards are and have always been about recognising innovation and best practice in the water sector, and it has been certainly has been interesting to see how innovation continues to play an ever increasingly important role as the water companies, their contractors and suppliers not only meet their regulatory duties but also overcome other challenges, such as the effects of climate change and population growth to name but a few. Innovation does not just apply to new technologies, though. It applies to every aspect of what the water companies and their contractors and suppliers do. It is about going above and beyond the call of duty, thinking outside of the box in order to achieve greater effi ciencies. Looking back at the launch of the Water Industry Achievement Awards 11 years ago, it is clear to see how far the sector has come since then in being more innovative. It is also evident how a lot of this innovative thinking now is being developed through collaboration. Over the following pages that collaboration is visible among this year's award winners and fi nalists with the water companies and their respective supply chains combining their efforts. Everyone in the industry should be applauded for continuing to keep innovation high on the sector's agenda. The Water Industry Achievement Awards have played their part to by applauding that innovation.
