18 | 7TH - 13TH APRIL 2017 | UTILITY WEEK Operations & Assets High viz Six months aer contracts were signed for Hinkley Point C on the Somerset coast, EDF Energy has set out the progress made at the site. This includes confirmation that concrete has been poured for the power station galleries – a network of connected tunnels that will carry cabling and pipes (inset), which will be some of the first permanent structures. The concrete pour followed the first consent for construction granted by the Office for Nuclear Regulation. Construction of the building for the first reactor at Hinkley Point C is scheduled to start in 2019 when concrete will be poured for the first time to make the reactor platform. Construction now involves 1,600 workers on site every day. Three Changing Channel
