12 ALLIANCES 2017 The long-running AGT alliance between AECOM and Galliford Try has a very well established partnership with Yorkshire Water that dates back to 2000, and is now in its fourth successive AMP. For the current AMP6 cycle, the alliance was appointed to work on three work streams namely medium treatment works, installation projects and large schemes. Work is now gathering momentum although it has been about nine months later coming through compared to AMP5. AGT is on course for a £15M turnover in year two which, to date, has involved 15 projects, many of them relatively small ECIs (early contractor involvements) or early works orders. A spike in business is anticipated towards the end of year two and during year three. The joint venture is one of the oldest in the sector having worked collabora- tively to provide Yorkshire The AMK joint venture, comprising AECOM, J Murphy and Kier, is continuing on the multimillion-pound upgrade to Deephams wastewater treatment works for Thames Water. The project is currently one of the largest water projects in the UK. AMK is only delivering the Deephams wastewater treatment works project, which will ensure the works meets strict Environment Agency sewage treatment standards from March 2017. The upgrade will improve efficiency at the works, which Water with design and construction services throughout AMP3, AMP4 and AMP5, and now AMP6. Projects that AGT has been involved with include the upgrade of Blackburn Meadows WwTW. The work has included a series of improvements to the site's storm overflow system and Don Valley pumping station. This means the site is better able to cope during heavy currently treats waste from around a million homes and businesses; increase capacity to accommodate a growing population; and reduce odour from the smelliest parts by 99%. Local water- ways will benefit from a significant reduction in discharges of storm water to the River Lee and Salmons Brook. Planning permission for the upgrade was granted earlier this year. Thames Water said one of the biggest challenges will be upgrading the 35-hectare site while rainfall and that sewage- related debris is better screened out before being discharged to the river. AGT was also involved with the upgrade works at Mexborough Swinton. New additions to the site include an activated sludge plant (ASP), where oxygen and bacteria react to draw out impurities from the wastewa- ter. New screens have also been fitted. keeping it fully operational. The utility said it was vital customers continued to have their waste removed and treated as normal during the work, so that was a major consideration when drawing up the plans. It was also mindful of keeping disrup- tion from noise and lorry movements to a minimum so strict rules are placed on when vehicles can enter and leave. The upgrade, includ- ing the construction of new storm tanks and odour control units, is due to be completed in autumn 2018.
