20 ALLIANCES 2017 Dwr Cymru Welsh Water's (DCWW) Capital Delivery Alliance (CDA) is currently in year two of a five-year contract that will see the delivery of a £1.7bn billion investment programme during AMP6. It is responsible for the design and build of water and wastewater assets above and below ground in AMP6, and potentially AMP7. Partners appointed to CDA comprise Skanska Construction UK, working with Arcadis Design and Consultancy; MMB; and Morgan Sindall, working with Arup. Galliford Try Infrastructure, working with AECOM, is a reserve capital partner. The investment is being carried out on DCWW's water and wastewater networks and treatment facilities. It will include a large range of engineering and construction activities associated with the design and construction of new The AECOM, Morrison Utility Services joint venture Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA) is one of three consortia appointed to Scottish Water's current capital investment programme, which ends in 2021. The team is currently delivering a range of projects across the water network in Scotland. CWA is also working on Scottish Water's £120M scheme to improve water supply for more than 200,000 people and businesses in much of Ayrshire and East Renfrewshire. The project involves the construction of about 30 miles of new strategic water mains, which is expected to take about four years. The pipeline will connect the Bradan water supply network to the network served by the Milngavie and Balmore water treatment works, north of Glasgow. assets and the maintenance of existing assets. In many cases the condition and location of assets creates unique challenges. The alliance has enjoyed an Early Contractor Involve- ment (ECI) phase that provided all of the project partners with a sustained period of collaboration, working together on defining how solutions can be delivered, driving best use of innovation to achieve effi-ciency gains and reducing cost. During the delivery phase contractors will draw on the When complete, the investment will enable Scottish Water to transfer water from Glasgow to Ayrshire, and vice-versa, if required. A key stage inolving the installation of a 13-mile long section of water main, saw CWA tunnel under a railway line near Barrhead, East Renfrewshire to enable us to install a stretch of the pipe. It was necessary to go under the Neilston railway line at Barrhead, near Balgraystone Road and Balgray Reservoir, because no sustainability experience of each of the partners, using BIM technology to bring whole-life costing and carbon foot-printing considerations to every project and programme. The alliance has invested heavily in innovative technology to increase efficiency, including a 360° BIM Igloo which helps all parties understand construction projects through the use of digital models. Such technology has changed the way Welsh Water approaches design and delivery. other alternative crossing method was available. There were no local roads with sufficient access, width or height that would enable normal open excavation methods to be used. The Ayreshire / East Renfrewshire scheme is the first stage in Scottish Water's investment to improve connections between water supply networks across Scotland, and w ill improve much of the area's water supply resilience by creating a new link between the supply systems.
