Clive Lewis shadows business and energy Clive Lewis has been appointed Labour's new shadow business and energy secre- tary as part of Jer- emy Corbyn's first reshuffle since being re-elected party leader. The MP for Norwich entered the Commons in the 2015 election and was appointed a shadow energy and climate change minister last September when Corbyn first took the leadership. He had been serving as shadow defence secretary since June. Whitehead regains energy brief Alan Whitehead has been rein- stated as shadow energy and climate change minister for Labour. The MP for Southampton Test has been brought back into the fold after he quit his post in June citing concerns over the leadership style of Jeremy Corbyn. POLITICAL MOVES Worldwide, a total of $221 billion was invested in improving energy efficiency in the transport, industry and buildings sectors last year, according to a report on energy efficiency from the International Energy Agency (IEA). This is an increase of 6 per cent on 2014 and is two-thirds more than was spent on new conventional power generation. Efficiency investments made up 14 per cent of the $1.6 trillion spent globally on energy supply last year, even though 70 per cent of global energy consumption is not sub- ject to mandatory efficiency standards targets. Global energy efficiency investment on the rise Total efficiency investments by sector Big EV trial Electric Nation promises to be the world's largest trial of charging electric vehicles (EVs) from domestic premises attached to the local distribution grid. The trial will take place in Western Power Distribution's (WPD's) licence areas in the South West, South Wales and West and East Midlands. Electric Nation will recruit up to 700 people who have bought or are leasing new EVs. It is hoped the findings of the project will enable power distribution companies to manage the additional load caused by EV growth more effectively. Electric Nation is the public brand for CarConnect – a WPD and Network Innovation Allowance- funded project.
