Congratulations to our award fi nalists From a huge pool of hopeful nominations, an elite group have now been named as eligible for recognition at the Utility Week Awards 2016. It is always gratifying to witness the enthusiasm and hard work which the industry pours in to entering our awards. But in the light of the upheaval of the past 12 months, when companies have been faced with market transformations, organisational reinvention and, not least, radical alterations to the sector's policy environment, we were especially proud to attract such a wealth of ambitious entries. Each one showed how utility companies large and small are proving themselves to be resilient in the face of change. Whittling out a shortlist from these nominations was, as ever, a tough job for our judges. The entries were varied and well-articulated with many providing robust data to show how projects had exceeded company expectations, delivered benefi ts to customers and communities and supported outperformance. After careful discussion and weighing up however, our expert panel has selected a worthy group of fi nalists for our coveted industry trophies. Well done to all our shortlisted entrants for your successes in the disciplines which defi ne great utility service providers – from capital project management to customer care and from smart technology deployment to marketing. We look forward to celebrating these achievements and the unstinting dedication of the whole sector on 12 December at Park Lane's Grosvenor House. Jane Gray Deputy editor Utility Week
