UTILITY WEEK | 17TH - 23RD JUNE 2016 | 5  A frame from an animation explaining how Highview's Liquid Air Energy Storage technology works. The company is about start operating a 5MW prototype, currently being commissioned at Viridor's Pilsworth landfill gas site at Bury in Greater Manchester. Designs for a 20MW version are shown in the picture. The animation goes on to show plans for an even larger 200MW/1.2GWh "GigaPlant". £15.9bn A Renewable Energy Association report says the sector was worth more than £15.9 billion in 2015. £2.5m Amount Affinity Water is spending on extending a storage reservoir near Folkestone, Kent. "Prices have continued to soar" Consumer group Which? has called on Ofgem to outline how it will judge the success of the Competition and Markets Authority investigation in improving the market for consumers. "We cannot achieve this alone" EDF and Scottish Power have called on the Energy and Climate Change Committee to conduct a wider inquiry into sales tactics (news, p24). This graph, from a National Audit Office analysis of the Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation (Eco), shows the numbers of energy-efficiency measures installed since 2009. It reveals that, since the launch of Green Deal and Eco in 2013, the number of energy efficiency measures installed per year is significantly lower than under previous schemes. Boiler replacements are the only measure that increased between Q3 in 2013 and Q2 2014 compared with previous years. The Department of Energy and Climate Change said this was due, in part, to its decision to focus Eco on harder-to-treat-homes without increasing the total cost to bill payers. Selwyn, who is director of Solar Consulting and former managing director of Lark Energy, said: "At a time of great change for the UK solar industry, it has never been more important for the STA to stand up and promote our sector. "I hope to put my experience to good use in helping steer the STA through the many challenges ahead and I am very grateful to the members for electing me to this position." His position comes after current chair Jan Sission, who has been at the helm of the organisation for two-and-a-half years, decided to step down. Berry has been serving on the STA's board of directors for three years and is currently head of public affairs at Solar Century. He said: "The STA can rightly be proud of the feed-in tariff campaign it fought last year and for the highly professional resource it continues to devote to crucial public policy and lobbying work."
