17 Engineer of the Year Winner Howard Lewis, community operations delivery manager, Affinity Water He is a di erent type of engineer, designing repair solutions and then joining front line teams to see the repair through to completion. The customer is at the centre of everything he does, leading him to be a key player in deploying non-intrusive repair methodologies. Finalist: Ben Jones, senior dams and reservoirs engineer, Atkins. His ability and conscientiousness to interpret and realise the environmental concepts into so engineering solutions ensured a fully integrated and environmentally sensitive Hampstead Heath Ponds project was realised. Finalist: Dr Paul Canning, principal engineer, Atkins. He is described by as 'the glue' in projects, sticking together the various pieces of multi-layered jigsaws. Environmental sustainability, compliance and betterment are at the forefront of his strategic direction. Finalist: Lesley Dunne, senior dams and reservoirs engineer, Atkins. She is a great mentor and fantastic role model for young, aspiring dam engineers. Being truly passionate about dams and reservoirs, she is happy to give up her own time to share this knowledge with others. Finalist: Sean Griˆ ths, engineer, J Murphy and Sons and currently seconded to AECOM Design. He has progressed rapidly from graduate to senior roles and continually seeks to improve his civil engineering knowledge / skills. What the judges said: "This is genuinely innovative and should help meet today's challenges of water security and resilience. It's cheap and easy to install and could save a lot of water" Finalist: Aquam Water Services and Aquacheck Engineering for the overland supply manifold, a purpose-built device for multiple household water supply connections for use in emergency and temporary service disruptions. Finalist: Lontra for its blade compressor. The technology is a compact, double acting rotary compressor that is oil free, energy eˆ cient and reliable. It can be adapted to work with any kind of gas or air" ow equipment. Finalist: Source One Environmental and the Phoenix heated repair packer, which is part of the Pipe Doctor no-dig patch repair system. The packer can be operated in temperatures from -20°C up to +50°C, enabling no-dig repairs to take place throughout the year. Finalist: Veolia Water Technologies for its Cella technologies, which exploit the natural environments of biological wastewater treatment processes for augmenting the presence of bacteria that produce a speci› c kind of biopolymer. Finalist: Weeding Technologies in association with South West Water for the Foamstream, a thermal process that kills weeds and moss using a mix of hot water and an organic foam. Winner Waterblade For its waterblade device for taps. Waterblade takes a trickle of water and makes it useful for hand washing. It spreads the water out into a paper thin sheet of water through which the hands can be drawn. Most Innovative New Technology of the Year What the judges said: "He's an unsung hero – working tirelessly to › nd repair solutions to complex situations where there isn't an o -the-shelf › x"
