leaders 2016 37 Steady performance at Skanska UK despite tough environment SkanSka Uk Maple Cross House Rickmansworth T: 01923 776666 www.skanska.co.uk Skanska UK's construction and development businesses recorded a consolidated operating profit of £38.4M in 2015 on revenues of £1,43bn. This equates to an operating margin of 2.7%. During this period just under £1.5bn of orders were booked by Skanska UK. Mike Putnam, Skanska UK's president and CEO, said there was a steady perfor- mance across the business, despite "a tough and extremely competitive environment". Skanska's work in AMP6 includes three major contracts with Anglian Water (Integrat- ed Main Works Capital Alliance), Thames Water (eight2O as part of the SMB venture with MWH and Balfour Beatty) and Dwr Cymru Welsh Water (Capital Delivery Alliance). The contracts are worth a total of £454M over five years, and were a highlight of Skanska UK's year, said Putnam. The company is on a major recruitment drive as it aims to create around 1,500 jobs in the UK over the next two to three years. The jobs are required to complete major water, rail, building and roads contracts that it won. Putnam said: "2015 wasn't just about winning work, it was also about continuing to deliver our current projects to the highest standards." He added that continuing to innovate is an important part of Skanska's future, as is developing a diverse and inclusive workforce, main- taining the highest safety and ethical standards and caring for the environment. "A 'book-to-build' ratio of 104% signifies a strong pipeline of work and provides a firm foundation for our business in 2016 and beyond. There are also good future opportuni- ties, worth around £1.9bn, where we are working on an early involvement or two-stage basis."
