will be introduced to prevent corrosion and to preserve RO membranes. Design focus The project is on track for completion in June 2016, in time for the summer months when the plant might be called upon to top up reservoirs if the island experiences long periods of low rainfall. Measures to use existing buildings and ancillary equipment to their maximum potential have been crucial, but above all a detailed design focus, practical engineering experience and a collaborative approach will ensure a long term and resilient solution for Jersey Water. Helier Smith, chief executive at Jersey Water, says: "ACWA's track record and international experience with desalination and advanced water treatment technology, makes them a perfect partner for this critical water industry infrastructure project on Jersey. With the current plant at the end of its serviceable life, ACWA's solution will increase capacity and resilience for the Island's public water supply in times of low rainfall and built-in energy recovery will ensure that running costs are lower when the plant is online." n Peter Brewer is general manager for ACWA Services MARCH 2016 WET NEWS 21 The existing vessels at the desalination plant The project has had to overcome strict planning constraints The upgraded plant has been designed for maximum opera- tional flexibility BOOK NOW W W W .
