IDA PRESIDENT | 16 | Desalination & Water Reuse | November-December 2015 strategic planning. Reuse will stand alongside desalination in our programming, in our mission and in our outreach. We see this as a natural progression, as desalination technology is part of many reuse programmes. Our upcoming Water Reuse Conference in Nice, France in September 2016 is just part of our focus on reuse, and we will continue to keep you informed about our work in this area. During our strategic planning process, we examined the IDA's true value proposition. It became very clear that while our World Congress and other events are, perhaps, our most visible asset, our true value lies in our role as a catalyst for connecting people, ideas and knowledge. Our membership represents an unparalleled collection of knowledge. Our members have ready access to this knowledge, whether through proceedings from IDA events or direct contact with the industry leaders who are part of our membership. Speaking of membership, one of the IDA's goals is to at least double the number of members in a relatively short time. However, to do so, we must be able to keep and enhance our relevance and value for existing and new members, and our affi liates, in a world crowded with institutions and events. We must improve areas that need to be strengthened, and go where we are not now, but should be. To this end, as IDA's new president, I see the following three goals as our most immediate priorities: strengthening the IDA brand and how we are perceived; increasing our effectiveness as a knowledge broker; and expanding the IDA's geographic reach. Strengthening the IDA brand We have mentioned our commitment to widen our focus to reuse. We also need to ensure that sister non-desalting technologies such as ultrafi ltration, microfi ltration and membrane bioreactors are clearly included in our scope. This will take some effort after years when de facto desalination has been our focus, and it means that we will need to strengthen cooperation with our affi liates and other institutions. Increasing our effectiveness as a knowledge broker The IDA must provide and support evidence that desalination and reuse are strong weapons in balancing the three key R e c o g ni z e d Tec h n o l og y L e a d e r P r o v e n N anoc o m posi t e M e m b ra n e C he m i c a l I nn o v a t i o n G l o ba l De li v e r y & S u pp o r t You already know our name.
