NOVEMBER 2015 WET NEWS 3 O fwat has waived the usual tender procure- ment process rules for the Thames Tideway Tunnel to help deliver the project on time and to keep costs down. The waiver notice has been granted to infrastructure provider (IP) Bazalgette, meaning it does not have to conduct a regulated tender process for the three main construction contracts and the system integrator contract, the contract for an independent technical assessor, and deals surrounding occupational health and access control and security. Ofwat said it is "satis• ed" customers will be protected from unnecessary costs because A mey is deploying time- and cost-saving one- touch smartphone video technology across its Yorkshire Water team. The technology is enabling the team to provide full video reports produced by the app and the accompanying system will replace photos and paperwork. Adopting evidentially- standard-secure smartphone video technology is saving Amey time and money, and ensuring build, maintenance and repair project records are and will remain accurate. The YRfree technology Water regulator waives tender rules for London super sewer „ Waiver granted to prevent project delays, and to keep costs down. the contracts were all subject to a competitive tender process conducted by Thames Water before the IP licence was awarded to Bazalgette. The regulator agreed to allow the procurement of both the IP and the construction contracts to go ahead in parallel because otherwise work would not be able to start in 2016 as planned. This would have had the knock on e‰ ect of prolonging the period of non-compliance with the urban wastewater treatment directive and exacerbating the consequences of such non-compliance. The £4.2bn super sewer project has been designed to run 25km along the River WET News is registered at Stationers' Hall. Origination by Faversham House and TR Clash Ltd. Amey deploys smartphone videos technology on deal operates on smartphones and tablets and allows project employees and managers to video-record job progress, snag- resolution and project completion as de• nitive reports – removing time-consuming form-• lling, photo-taking and uploading from their workload as well as reducing travel to and from site. Adam Stephenson, inno- vation business manager at Amey, said: "We expect to see signi• cant bene• ts for Yorkshire Water and their customers, as well as for our employees, as YRfree is deployed." And that's all the way through the supply chain. Collaborative working stops at tier 1 far too often. #mcsummit @JonBIM4Water The technology has eliminated photographs and paperwork Need to know Bazalgette Tunnel is backed by pension funds and other long-term investors represented by Allianz, AIG, Dalmore Capital and DIF The project will be spread across 24 construction sites It will be connected to the Lee Tunnel, which will transfer the sewage to Beckton Sewage Treatment Works With the Tideway Tunnel in place, the system will discharge only four times in a typical year Thames between Acton and Abbey Mills and intercept 34 combined sewer over— ows. It will divert surface water and sewage discharge to a wastewater treatment facility rather than allowing it to discharge directly into the river. Ofwat said: "The notice will ensure that the project bene• ts from continuity, technical expertise, bidder certainty and improved commercial terms, resulting in enhanced customer value for money." Bazalgette was named by Thames Water as the infrastructure provider for the Thames Tideway Tunnel project in August and as a result of the competitive tender process will deliver the project with a lower cost of capital than expected.
