6 ALLIANCES 2016 ALLIANCES 2016 A lliancing is not new for Anglian Water, aer all its @ One Alliance delivered the lion's share of its capital delivery for the past two AMP cycles. The difference this time around is that the alliances are work- related consortia comprising: •Integrated Operational Solutions (IOS) •Integrated Main Works (Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Grontmij, MMB, MWH and Skanska) •Integrated Metering & Developer Ser- vices (Clancy Docwra and Kier MG) •Integrated Maintenance & Repair (Clancy Docwra, Claret Civil Engineering, Danaher & Walsh and Public Sewer Services). WET News recently visited the IOS team in Colchester to find out what it is like to create and be part of an embryonic alliance. The common message from all the partners is that having the right peo- ple for the job is key. All of the partners faced a tough behavioural assessment process that Anglian Water adopted for its tendering Alliancing the IOS way PARTNERS Barhale, Kier MG, Morrison US, Anglian Water CUSTOMER Anglian Water CONTRACT Delivering integrated operational solutions TERM Five years, plus five, plus five Integrated Operational Solutions process. The behavioural assessment included role plays and psychological tests (some carried out blindfolded). Survive this process and it would seem anything is possible. But partners are still subject to the alliance's "White Book", a weighty tome that outlines all the efficiencies to be achieved and how that will be done. Lessons have also been learned from the @One Alliance, and the camaraderie among IOS partners is clear to see. The fact that the partners have gelled so quickly has surprised some, and they think as IOS rather than individually as Kier, Morrison US or Barhale. The alliance is split across three geo- graphical areas rather than the expertise of each partner where one would do all the civils-type activity, one doing all the electricals and another doing all the mechanicals. Again, turnover is split three ways as are any penalties and rewards. But the common goal for the alliance is for Anglian Water to meet its ODIs. Let the partners explain... Several new alliances have emerged for AMP6 including four at Anglian Water but what's it like to form those new partnerships? Maureen Gaines finds out at IOS.
