AUGUST 2015 WET NEWS 21 WHAT'S NEW! ABB's Measurement and Analytics Service business has introduced a new analytical panel hire service. The hire panels provide a flexible solution for the measurement of selected key parameters in potable water treatment and power generation applications, with unlimited lending periods and full technical support. There are currently three options each for use in power and water industry applications. For water, there is the option of panels for measurement of aluminium, turbidity or ammonia. All of the panels are supplied with a comprehensive array of An agreement between the British Geological Survey (BGS) and aerial mapping company Bluesky is allowing for a range of geological and geohazard map layers to be made available online. The eight new layers cover a variety of physical features and hazards, including a nationwide map of groundwater flooding as well as ground stability data, geological indicators of flooding and permeability data. Widely used by developers, planners and environmental consultants, this new data complements the national datasets already on offer, including high resolution aerial photography, detailed height models and Ordnance Survey mapping. BGS Geohazard data now available from the Bluesky Mapshop includes the GeoSure Digital Dataset range. Providing geological information Analytical panel hire service available Geological and geohazard map layers go online about potential ground movement or subsidence that can help planning decisions, the six themes are Collapsible Deposits, Compressible Ground, Landslides, Running Sands, Shrink-Swell and Soluble Rocks – all features which can present a hazard to property. www.blueskymapshop.com T: 01530 518 518 Centriforce has further widened its product range with the addition of a range of high-quality detectable underground meshes. Available direct from the company, the brightly-coloured warning mesh incorporates traceable, stainless steel wires that run through the mesh's centre strip, so it can be detected by a Cable Avoidance Tool and Signal Generator. The underground warning mesh is available from stock with standard warning texts. Customers can also order custom- manufactured mesh to suit specific identification needs. The mesh can be supplied in different colours and may be printed with logos and warning messages in any specified language. Centriforce Products has approvals from utility companies in many parts of the world, and is fully accredited to ISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001. The company is also able to provide utility providers and contractors with a wide choice of customisable signs, markers and utility protection tiles and tapes. www.centriforce.com T: 0151 207 8109 Warning mesh goes underground Utility service provider PN Daly has reduced water leakage to an all-time low in south London with the aid of HWM's leak detection equipment. In a separate project in Guildford, HWM noise loggers helped the company to save 5Ml of water a day. PN Daly carried out a year-long project on behalf of Thames Water in London Datalogger identifies the leaks and Guildford. Focusing mainly on areas with cast iron pipes, the firm used 580 Permalog+ noise loggers from HWM in a lift-and-shift data collection mode for rapid deployment. On average, HWM's equipment enabled the six-person noise-logging team to identify 299 leaks a month, of which 232 proved genuine, a 78% conversion rate. As part of an improvement programme in Guildford, Permalog+ helped to reduce leakage from 17Ml to 12Ml a day. www.hwm-water.com T: 01633 489479 In order to provide customers with a simple selection guide, GEMÜ has summarised all the relevant components of a control system under the term Process Control System (PCS). The PCS type combines the standard GEMÜ control valves with mounting kit, piping system and positioner. Customers have the option of ordering the appropriate control system and necessary components quickly. Each nominal size has two regulating cones (linear and equal-percentage) to choose from as standard. The operators for the GEMÜ 554 (plastic), GEMÜ 514 (aluminium) and GEMÜ 550 (stainless steel) series are available in the form of actuators. GEMÜ 1434, 1435 and 1436 have been integrated into the PCS as controllers. The standard versions of each controller are regarded as basic versions. The GEMÜ 514, 530, 532, 534, 550 and 554 series contain the nominal size range of DN 15 to DN 50. The GEMÜ 536 globe valve covers the nominal size range of DN 65 to DN 150. www.gemu-group.com Standard systems for complex control tasks Veolia Water Technologies has a new generation of the Orion skid- mounted pharmaceutical purified water packages. Orion produces compendial purified water through softening, reverse osmosis and final CEDI polishing, and with the new range offering sustainability features to create an unrivalled water purification package. Microbial control is paramount in any purified water treatment system, and the new Orion retains the proven hot water sanitisation (HWS) system, covering pre- treatment softeners and the main treatment process. Available in three models, the expanded range offers flow rates from 0.5 to 20m3/h. The C-Series "Classic" Orion provides the core technology within the most economic package, whilst the mid-range E-Series includes, as standard, environmental features such as a concentrate recycle pump to conserve water during periods of no demand. At the top of the range, the S-Series, adds sustainability in the form of an integral recovery reverse osmosis unit, to minimise water and energy consumption, combined with long-term operating efficiencies. www.veoliawatertechnologies.co.uk T: 01628 897000 Orion range offers sustainability features S&P Consult has expanded its range of microtunnelling and pipe jacking services with a new pressure transmission system called CoJackHydra. The technology combines the optimised hydraulic joint as well as the online monitoring and quality assuring system CoJack which is adjusted accordingly. Consequently, even three- dimensional curves and S-curves with narrow curve radii can now be driven smoothly with high permissible jacking forces. The use of CoJackHydra represents a new elegant method allowing for high jacking forces even for difficult line alignments. CoJackHydra is a combination of a new pipe joint that is optimised for difficult jacking lines and a specifically adjusted electronic monitoring system. The essential feature of CoJackHydra is the hydraulic force transmission combined with sensors installed in situ which provide measured data for a comfortable and reliable online monitoring by means of CoJack. www.s-u-p-consult.de T: +49 234-5167-113 CoJackHydra offers high jacking forces Talis UK has introduced a new butterfly valve to its offering. The ERHARD ROCO wave Butterfly Valve aims to establish new industry standards of valve safety, economic efficiency and durability with its innovative, fresh design. The latest in ERHARD's proven range of valves, the ROCO wave represents a new generation of butterfly valves. It has been designed in a flow- optimised way so it can safely withstand the force of water, as well as realise the least possible pressure loss compared with other butterfly valves available on the market. The valve comes with two disc designs – ERHARD's principle wave disc is the best for standard pressure ratings and small diameter valves, while ERHARD's new 'Skeleton' butterfly disc has been designed for stability and to optimise flow performance for larger diameter valves and higher pressure ratings. As a result, the valves can be operated with the least possible pumping capacity, ensuring permanently low operating costs. The curved wave shape of the ROCO butterfly valve makes it ideal for seamless opening and closing without resistance, and the addition of the improved slider-crank mechanism (SKG) gearbox, which helps to operate the butterfly disc, helps to slow down the valve's closing speed. This new feature ensures the valve is closed softly, helping to minimise the danger of pressure surges and leaks. The valve also benefits from a polygon connection between the shaft and the tilting disk allowing for continuous corrosion protection and clean potable water. In addition to this the torque transmission is more efficient and the load is spread more uniformly over the circumference of the shaft. www.talis-uk.com T: 0845 077 9797 New generation of butterfly valves launched equipment providing accurate and reliable measurement. Each one also includes dataloggers to record and store measurement data that can be relayed to control systems via Ethernet and Modbus. The analytical hire panels are ideal for situations where it may be either impractical or not worthwhile to purchase a permanent system. Typical situations where a hire panel might be used include replacing faulty analysers out for repair, or validating the accuracy of a currently installed system. Analytical hire panels can also be useful where companies may want to assign expenditure to operational costs, where a capital budget may not be immediately available. The company said that hiring provides the added security of having someone else to manage the equipment. www.abb.com T: 0870 600 6122 Honeywell's Touchpoint Plus is a highly configurable, easy-to-use, wall-mounted controller that supports up to eight channels of gas detection for industrial and light industrial sectors, making it easier for operators to monitor the safety of their sites and staff.
