One of the two nuclear reactors at
Dungeness B power station in Kent
was taken out of service on 1 May for a
major maintenance programme worth
around £30 million. Dungeness B's
other reactor is due to continue oper-
ating normally throughout the period.
Around 500 extra workers will
join the site's 550-strong team for
a planned 14 weeks. These mainte-
nance periods, known as "statutory
outages", take place every three years.
