8 Leaders 2015 The LeADeRS 2015 Peter Duffy on a mission for success Peter Duffy tops the tables for both operating margin and net margin, as its profits almost triple. P eter Duffy, a privately-owned civil engineering, utility and construction company, has taken top spot for both operating margin and net margin, making it one of the most profitable in the sector. In its latest full financial year, the company saw a massive increase in both operating profit and pre-tax profit compared with the company's 2012/13 results. Operating profit last year was £4.63M, compared with £1.83M the previous year. Pre-tax profit jumped from nearly £1.8M in 2013 to £4.6M last year. Earlier this year, Peter Duffy was listed in the London Stock Exchange Group's latest list of 1,000 companies to inspire Britain. To be selected for the list, businesses had to demonstrate not only positive growth in revenue over the past four years, but also significantly outperform their sector peers. Duffy comments: "This is great news for the business, to be recognised at a national level. It is a credit to all our employees who should be proud of their achievement." The company has vast experience of water network projects direct for the water companies, undertaking the construction of new water mains and pipelines together with the repair and maintenance of the networks. Techniques It provides a specialist service to clients, particularly on the larger and more strategic parts of their infrastructure. Projects have included mains laying, renovation and rehabilitation, mains diversions, strategic meter and valve installations, under pressure connections, testing and chlorination. The techniques used for mains installation o•en involve trenchless techniques such as pipebursting and relining. Peter Duffy also undertakes large complex sewerage schemes, involving major work, sha•s and tunnels, pumping stations, package pumping stations and treatment plants, rising mains, sewer overflows and outfalls and storm tanks. According to the company, having an in-house design team for sewerage and drainage solutions allows it to offer a design and build option for wastewater and stormwater problems and sustainable urban drainage (SuDs) solutions. Wastewater maintenance is also a large part of the business carried out by its specialist division, DrainsAid. It has maintained the sewerage networks for Yorkshire Water, Northumbrian and Dwr Cymru Welsh Water. Mission roll-out During the past year, Duffy says the company has been rolling out its Mission, Vision and Values.
