WHAT'S NEW! MAY 2015 WET NEWS 25 Customer demand to use Sick's LFP fluid probes in difficult applications has led to an expanded range of products, all offering the same highly accurate level detection and measurement in oil- and water- based fluids even in the presence of foam. LFP's cost-effectiveness and versatility have led to it finding new uses in the water and process industries because it is universally- adaptable and quick to commission. Its probe length has been extended to provide hygienic level measuring options up to 4m with the LFP Inox. Installations with limited headroom above a tank, which do not have such stringent hygiene require- ments, can now be solved using the LFP cubic rope version. A weighted stainless steel rope up to With Rainbox Cube, JDP has partnered with GRAF to provide a total solutions offering for stormwater management from planning and design, through to supply and installation on site. There is an increasing demand from contractors for attenuation tanks to be provided on a supply and install basis as it removes the risk of ensuring a completely watertight tank using the geo-membrane surround. With the installation option a team of trained and qualified installers is provided to carry out the heat- welding on site in order to achieve a watertight solution. On a project for D&B contractor Algo in Aberdeen, JDP provided specialist advice to Algo about the installation of the crates and a team of Fluid probe range extended to meet demand 4m long is used instead of a solid probe to guide the microwave pulse. The LFP Remote amplifier versions provide a solution for higher process temperatures, up to 180˚C or where the separation of probe and electronics provides easier access to the device for set-up and diagnos- tics. www.sick.co.uk Tel: 01727 831121 installers was sent to site to manage the installation. The crates and membrane were installed, along with all of the welding of the Attenuation help for contractors geo-membrane to guarantee watertight seals. www.jdpipes.co.uk Tel: 0800 195 1212 Low-cost aeration for packaged sewage treatment Designed for domestic wastewater treatment units, Charles Austen Pumps' Enviro provides a reliable, low cost aeration source in packaged sewage treatment plants. Underground Warning Tape is a purpose-designed printed marker tape which provides the regulation "identification layer" that is installed at a specified distance from the service line to warn any future excavators of the presence of buried utilities Conforming to ENA-TS 12-23 Issue 3, 2013, Warning Tape is manufactured from lead-free pigments and does not degrade in most soil types, including alkaline and acid soils. Underground Warning Tape is available in a range of widths in both 0.1mm and 0.05mm thicknesses. It can also be custom-manufactured to individual specifications. Available in a range of different colours, it can be printed with logos and warning messages in any specified language. It is expected to find a broad range of applications internationally to alert for the presence of electric, telecoms and fibre-optic cables as well as gas, water and sewer pipelines. www.centriforce.com Tel: 0151 207 8109 ETFE-lined centrigal pumps range extended The Finish Thompson ULTRAChem Series of ETFE-lined centrifugal pumps has been extended with two new models that increase the maximum flow rates up to 160m3/ hr and maximum differential heads to 67m. Engineered for extreme reliability ULTRAChem magnetic drive, sealless pumps are suitable for pumping hazardous, hard-to- handle chemicals in chemical processing, water treatment and other similar challenging applications. Available from Michael Smith Engineers, the leak-free pumps combine a tough ductile iron casing with a Tefzel (ETFE) lining to ensure outstanding corrosion resistance. The benefits of using seal-less, mag-drive pumps in extreme pumping applications are well documented and these new ULTRAChem models are no exception. They feature powerful neodymium magnets which drive the impeller through a carbon-filled PTFE-lined barrier for dependable, leak-free operation with no environmental emissions, no double mechanical seal costs and no seal-support systems. In addition, a range of features optimise the reliability, efficiency and performance of these pumps to ensure minimal wear on components, lower running costs and extended periods between routine servicing. www.michael-smith-engineers.co.uk Tel: 0800 316 7891 Cedarapids for larger screen openings Terex Minerals Processing Systems has expanded its CR Series portable plant line with the Cedarapids CRS620S screen plant. The revolutionary plant features the next generation LJ-TSV screen, which increases production and handles applications not possible with traditional horizontal screens because it combines the El-Jay high g-force oval stroke motion with adjustable slope operation. This plant can handle larger deck loads and larger screen openings. Hydraulics quickly change the screen slope in 2.5° increments up to a maximum of 7.5° to best fit the application. Screen openings up to 152mm are possible. The 1,219mm wide fines conveyor with its elevated discharge and the two 762mm wide reversible cross conveyors which extend up to 1,067mm beyond the main frame, easily feed off-plant conveyors. Roll- away blending chutes and extended walkways allow easy access to screen cloth. www.terexmps.com. The cutting edge for ductile iron Steve Vick International has introduced two new pipe cutters to its range – one for cutting 'windows' and one for circumferential cuts; both developed for cutting ductile iron. The Rapid Window Cutter is probably the fastest on the market typically cutting a window in 4" ductile iron in less than 12 minutes. It is a lightweight and compact handheld unit allowing for small excavations and depth controls allow the cutter to be used without damaging inserted pipe. The Rapid Rotary Cutter is a circumferential cutter typically cutting a 4" ductile main in around two minutes. The machine is extremely compact and requires very little space around the main resulting in reduced trench sizes. It is assembled in seconds. www.stevevick.com Tel: 01225 864864 Spectral sensor puts a spark into spectroscopy Ocean Optics' new Spark spectral sensor uses optical technology advances to shrink instrument size, making it the smallest on the market to date. The single insert design is a great advantage because it fits directly into the jaws of the machine without the need for additional master or nesting inserts. As a result, fewer items need to be stored, moved and installed. It is the perfect application when trying to fit a single or odd pipe size. One person can easily install the OneFit Inserts because of its lightweight aluminum construction. The inserts were successfully tested to the maximum fusion force on pipe with a DR 7 wall thickness to ensure their durability and strength. They are serrated to hold pipe firmly in place during fusion. OneFit Inserts are currently available in 36" and 48" jaw sizes. www.mcelroy.com.
