8 Winner Perceptive Engineering For the Lost Opportunity KPI Report, which aims to quantify the nancial impact of losing critical control data on wastewater treatment plant. ✰Highly commended: APEM and Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water for the innovative use of digital aerial surveys to map the potential impact water temperature changes have on shad in the River Towy. ✰Finalist: e5 alliance and Severn Trent Water for the "Bagel" Acid Phase Digester, which increases volatile solids destruction and gas production from sewage sludge AD. ✰Finalist: H5O and South West Water for the use of an activated bio lter at Kingsbridge STW that does not rely on critical instrumentation. ✰Finalist: Northumbrian Water Group for its sewer level monitoring scheme, which has been incorporated into a dashboard on NWG's SCADA system for intelligent alarm management. ✰Finalist: Orchard Watercare and Atlas Water Harvesting for a gravity-fed rainwater harvesting system that collects rainwater direct from the roof and takes it to storage tanks in the roof space. ✰Finalist: South West Water, NRW, and the University of Portsmouth for the Chemcatcher passive sampler, a simple PTFE device that sequesters extremely polar, ionising pollutants. Most Innovative Use of an Existing Technology What the judges said: Perceptive Engineering won for the Lost Opportunity KPI Report, which helps identify the cost of losing critical data in a wastewater treatment plant. Winner Northumbrian Water Group For its Surface Water Management Approach, designed to protect 2,000 customers affected by sewer ooding. It focuses on effective partnering with third parties, and identifying SuDS as alternatives to traditional grey infrastructure. ✰Finalist: Acoustic Sensing Technology for its innovative SewerBatt system, which uses Time Domain Pulse Re ectometry to quickly establish the serviceability of drainage assets. A recent trial recorded that SewerBatt correctly found that 75% of the sewers CCTV'd were serviceable. Sustainable Drainage & Flood Management Initiative of the Year What the judges said: Northumbrian Water Group's submission showed the value of partnership working with stakeholders in tackling ood water in a sustainable way
