Materials collected from the kerbside of around 55,000 households will be transported to Casepak's MRF. Materials recovery facility MRF plans withdrawn Plans for a 450,000 tonne per year materials recycling and recovery centre have been withdrawn by Powerday. The company wanted to build the facility at the 'Old Coal Depot' in West Drayton in west London, but its planning application was rejected by Hillingdon Council following a campaign by local objectors. Although Powerday had submitted a new environmental impact assessment ahead of submitting a new planning application, it has now decided to withdraw this assessment. In a statement, Powerday said: "Powerday will in the immediate future be concentrating its business growth on its existing facilities across London where continued investment is being made. The company will now consider options for the Tavistock Road site and will in due course consult with Hillingdon Council, local residents and community groups together with occupiers and Network Rail." Materials recovery facility Pleasure Beach waste contract Neales Waste Management has won a three-year waste and recycling contract with the iconic Blackpool Pleasure Beach. The tourist attraction has 125 rides and attractions and was voted the UK's number one amusement park, in 2014, by social review website TripAdvisor. The park's general waste is sent to Neales' new MRF in Chorley, Lancashire, where recyclable material is recovered and the remaining material is shredded and turned into fuel for cement kilns. Under the terms of the arrangement Neales will implement the amusement park's first food waste collection service and then transport it to an anaerobic digestion plant. Non-recyclable items will be turned into RDF. Materials recovery facility E-waste plant gets £600k A £600,000 grant has been given to a consortium of UK firms to develop a system to turn electronic waste into pure precious metal. Innovate UK has given the money to the £1m project that is led by Tetronics and involves Metech Recycling and Vale Europe. The project will look to develop and demonstrate the UK's first integrated plasma facility for the sustainable processing of electronic waste to pure precious metal. Once up and running, it will recover precious metals found in electronic waste including platinum group metals, gold and silver at a smaller and more localised scale than existing large centralised methods without the need for further types of refining. Materials recovery facility Scotland gets new MRF CoP The Scottish Government has launched its MRF Code of Practice (CoP) on sampling, setting out requirement for operators in an attempt to drive up quality of recycled materials.
