If people contact your company
on a number beginning 08 or 09,
be aware that changes are coming
to how the cost of these numbers
must be explained to callers.
From the summer, the cost of calling 08
and 09 numbers will be made up of two
parts: one going to the caller's phone
company, the other (the 'service charge')
selected by you, the organisation being
called.
Your service charge must be displayed
prominently on promotional material,
under new rules enforced by Ofcom and
the Advertising Standards Authority.
The new recommended wording is:
"Calls cost xp plus your phone
company's access charge."
What you need to do:
✓ Speak to the company that provides your
08 or 09 telephone number
✓ Ask them to confirm the service charge for
your number or numbers
✓ Decide if the service charge is suitable
✓ Review all your materials and advertising
