March 2015 Local Authority Waste & Recycling 23 systems and software urban planners, architects and citizens. It can help them to define the future of cities based on 'what if' scenarios that the technology stimulates, according to software specialist Dassault Systèmes. In essence, 3D visualisation could integrate different city departments in order to help them visualise potential futures with greater accuracy and provide them with better information. Yotta Marketing and Strategic Alliances director Simon Topp says that giving staff access to information they need "when they need it is crucial for any service operation". He adds: "Integrating back office systems with frontline CRM (customer relationship management) gives dedicated customer service staff access to live service information so they can answer many queries at first point of contact". "For more complex enquiries or requests customer service staff can directly log a question or complaint into the management system reducing duplication of effort, and potentially errors, freeing up service staff to concentrate on the task at hand and improving customer service. Mobile working takes this joining up of systems to the next level; in-cab units and mobile devices give field crews access to the same service information as back office staff and even customer service teams – and vice versa." He says that this means progress can be monitored, service requests can be automatically transmitted to the nearest crew and reports of potential issues – such as blocked street, shared. Route optimisation AMCS Group Ireland and UK head of sales and marketing Elaine Treacy says that there is "little doubt that the increased use of technology has an important role to play in helping us meet the EU 50% recycling target by 2020 EU". "Local authority budgets continue to be under immense pressure and we therefore need to look at new ways of providing access to technology as well as its capability. Systems such as our 'Route Optimisation' service for example can realise significant improvements in efficiency without ever needing to buy a licence. "In terms of capability, our use of mobile technology presents some really exciting opportunities. The ability for householders to grade and photograph their own recycling for example, could create a profile of each recyclate stream before it is collected, enabling better processing decisions and optimising the sale value of each material. "This closer level of engagement between the user and the system would also help with quantity and vitally and quality of the material being presented for recycling. This could be further improved by offering incentive schemes that directly benefited the resident or their community." www.isys-systems.co.uk By integrating the very best of Weighsoft into the full range of ISYS products at over 300 installations, makes us the UK's No.1 provider of waste and recycling software solutions.
