February 2015 Local Authority Waste & Recycling 23 WEIGHING TECHNOLOGY 5 . Retro-fitting weighing equipment. If you have decided to retrofit weigh- ing equipment to your fleet we recommend you visit your chosen supplier at their premises to decide if they have the engineering capac- ity to complete the job in your timeframe. Get a guaranteed turna- round time and ask if they carry out pay by weight approvals. You will also need to consider a replacement vehicle(s) and most suppliers will provide this free of charge. They may even be able to loan you a vehi- cle fitted with bin weighing that you can borrow or hire for a trial period to help you make a decision for your business. Bin weighing is an important investment for your business and it has to be right for your needs. Do your homework and get to know your supplier first before you commit. And although it's important to have buy in from your drivers and opera- tors, it's worth mentioning that weighing and recording every bin offers the addi- tional benefit of minimising any fraudu- lent collections that may be going on.
