Docs urged to prevent waste Wandsworth Council has launched a new anti-litter campaign after new figures showed that the bill for picking up waste dumped on the street is costing local taxpayers nearly £4m a year. The Council has unveiled a raft of new initiatives to try and combat the problem and save residents money. It currently costs Council tax-payers in the borough £3.8m a year to clean up litter. As part of efforts to reduce this bill, the council is using a fleet of modern, brand new energy efficient vehicles that sweep and "hoover" up litter. Zero Waste Scotland, the body that delivers the Scottish Government's Zero Waste Plan, has launched a new £90,000 capital grant fund for materials recovery facility (MRF) operators to purchase standard- ised testing equipment to test, monitor and record their material quality. New funding Zero Waste Scotland plan The Carbon Trust and WRAP Cymru announced that they are to work in partnership to help Welsh public sector organisations and businesses of all sizes to become more resource efficient. The collaboration will deliver client manager services to businesses (including third sector businesses) and public sector organisations as part of the Welsh Government's Resource Efficient Wales service.
