The fire protection specialist stated that it installed its system in Prague to help replace ageing flame detectors. Located at Malešice in the Czech Republic's capital city, the incinerator and cogeneration plant is operated by Pražské služby a.s. and processes all of Prague's household waste to produce both electricity and heat. The upgrade was undertaken by Fike's local approved partner Avalon s.r.o.. According to Fike, unlike conventional fire detection systems, the SigniFire camera-based system doesn't use traditional forms of smoke, heat or flame detection. Instead, it works by automatically analysing video images at the point of detection in each video fire detector, looking for tell-tale characteristics that indicate the presence of smoke and/or flames. According to the crane specialist, the V-type girders weigh, on average, 17% less than comparable box-section profile girders. Terex states that this reduced crane deadweight produces less wheel pressure, minimising the forces transmitted to the existing building structure and increasing the maximum load capacity. Terex states that the patent-pending design, which features diaphragm joints, also cuts oscillation of the crane girder by up to 30%. The reduced oscillation characteristics cause lower loads to be transmitted to the crane, its components and the building structure, doubling the service life of the crane to more than 500,000 load changes.
