NEWS December 2014 Local Authority Waste & Recycling 9 Drinking and recycling Pssst! Come closer! No, closer than that! One local authority officer looked a little worse for wear during an evening out after the first day of the LARAC Conference (15 October), LAWR understands. An attendee, who wished not to be named, told LAWR that one officer had passed out in his chair because he had drank too much alcohol. The source told LAWR that the officer was so drunk that people had to step over him. Were you there? Were you the culprit? It is shame LAWR could not come along but I bet you had fun if you attended! EastEnders actress Jessie Wallace (pictured) appeared to get herself into a spot of bother recently. The 43-year-old, who is best-known for playing Kat Moon, got a ticking off from her local refuse collectors, when they told her that her bin was too full and had non-recyclable items in it. According to the Sunday Mirror, Jessie had to rummage through the bin, after returning home from a workout session at the gym, while the binmen oversaw her. A cereal box, packets and jars fell on to the pavement as Jessie, 43, pulled out the offending items. At one point she held up a plastic bottle and asked sarcastically if it could stay in or not. LAWR wonders if she has the same issues on the EastEnders set! As a nation we hold recyclers in high esteem, with two fifths (45%) of Britons suggesting those who recycle are 'better people', according to a new report by packaging specialist Tetra Pak. As a result, many confess that they over-egg their own recycling habits, with one in five people (21%) confessing to exaggerating about how often they recycle. The research also reveals that more than half (51%) of the population think it is important to appear to be doing the right thing in front of friends, colleagues and family members. Another Tetra Pak survey found that packaging for recycling remains the number one environmental activity among consumers. Recycling Bits and Pieces management an Aberdeen recycling centre.
