| 46 | Desalination & Water Reuse | November-December 2014 IDA & AFFILIATES IDA WorlD Congress 2015 The IDA World Congress 2015 is the leading event for the global desalination and water reuse industry to introduce new technologies, systems and services. reCorD breAkIng The 2015 exhibition will be the largest and most expansive in the history of the World Congress with over 18,000 square metres of exhibition space available at an award-winning venue in the San Diego Convention Centre. The centre has a convenient, centralized location and it is designed to give exhibitors maximum interaction with conference delegates and visitors. InnovAtIve thInkIng In a World Congress first, the IDA will present the Innovation Theatre as part of the 2015 exhibition area. The theatre will provide a setting to showcase industry-related films and company presentation opportunities will be available. WorlD Congress progrAmme The theme of the World Congress is Renewable water resources to meet global needs and will feature four days of technical sessions, lectures, roundtable and panel discussions. The congress will also include an interactive plenary session for open discussion, to be held on the last day. The congress' Technical Programme will be co- chaired by director of business development at Avista Technologies, Douglas Eisberg and executive vice- president at Desalitech, Dr Richard Stover – both highly respected authorities in desalination and members of the IDA board of directors. Technical programme authors note Authors who submitted their extended abstracts of papers for inclusion in one of the congress technical sessions by the 31 October 2014 deadline will receive notification of accepted submissions on 31 December 2014. The timetable then will be: • 1 February 2015 – first draft manuscripts due; • 15 May 2015 – final manuscript with content and format approved – ready for publication; • 15 May 2015 – presenter registered for the congress • 1 July 2015 – draft Powerpoint presentation; and • 15 Aug 2015 – final Powerpoint presentation. IDA presents New horizoNs for desaliNatioN AnD CAlls for AbstrACts The IDA has announced a two-day international conference to be held in Portofino, Italy centred on the social responsibility that we all have towards future generations and the need for innovation to generate new and ever more environmentally friendly options to support water needs. The event – at Santa Margherita, Portofino on 17-19 May 2015 will be in cooperation with the Rotary Club La Spezia and part of the conference proceeds will be donated to a water-related humanitarian project. The IDA has opened its call for extended abstracts with a deadline of 20 January, 2015. Extended abstracts will be reviewed initially for content and relevance to the theme of the conference. Submissions will be accepted on the basis of technical merit. Accepted abstracts will be allocated to a related session and their authors will be required to submit a Powerpoint presentation. To be considered for placement in the programme, authors must submit an extended abstract to conferences@idadesal.org on the required template which is located atwww.idadesal.org/events. Over the two days the conference will address growing requirements for desalination and advanced water treatment in new infrastructure markets such as mining, energy, and oil and gas where the judicious application of these solutions could contribute significantly towards cost and energy savings as well as environmental stewardship. AmtA AnD AWWA 2015 membrAne teChnology ConferenCe AnD exposItIon Membrane technology plays an integral role in protecting public health, improving water quality and making available new water supply opportunities. This conference in Orlando, Florida on 2-5 March 2015, will explore the research, development, implementation, operation and maintenance of membrane facilities. It will also provide information on how to treat impaired water supplies with membranes; show how membranes enhance water reliability and water quality; and reveal new directions in water treatment technologies and wastewater membrane bioreactor applications. Technical programme A technical programme will include presentations and posters from submissions under the following headings: • Membrane facility planning, management and regulations • Membrane filtration applications • Brackish water applications • Seawater desalination • Specific and multi-contamination removal • Wastewater treatment and reuse • Pretreatment, post-treatment, blending • Residuals management, recovery, and disposal • Water supply, intakes, outfalls • Regional issues and applications of membrane technologies • Developing membrane technologies • Research forum • Student forum • Industrial applications
