8 ALLIANCES 2015 AMK, comprising AECOM, Murphy and Kier, is the collaboration appointed to deliver the £177M upgrade to Thames Water's Deephams Sewage Treatment Works. The project is to ensure the works meets strict Environ- ment Agency sewage treatment standards from March 2017. The project will also increase capacity to allow for future rises in population, and significantly reduce the frequency and intensity of odour on site. Upgrading Deephams will also help to improve the water quality of London's River Lee and reduce odour. Jo Streeten, AMK project director said: "Upgrading Deephams presents a number of interesting challenges, not least the need to construct new treatment facilities on a site with limited space, while maintaining the current operation. "Working within Thames Scottish Water's £340M wastewater infrastructure programme covering SR15 2015-21 will be delivered by BBV Alliance, a new consortium set up by Black & Veatch and Amey subsidiary Byzak. BBV will deliver upgrades, maintenance and new infrastructure assets in Scotland, with an element of Water's ECI process has allowed us to understand these challenges early-on and develop a solution that meets them in the most efficient way." Lawrence Gosden, Thames Water's asset director, said: "This project represents our approach to delivering best value for our customers – working the work being self-delivered and the remainder delivered through contract partners. Under the alliance agreement, Amey and Black & Veatch are operating as equal joint venture partners working in collaboration with Scottish Water. Each of the partners has provided wastewater services on behalf for Scottish Water to improve innovatively, sustainably, and in collaboration with our contractors." AMK's appointment ended the first phase of Thames Water's ECI procurement process for Deephams. This first phase involved two contractors working in parallel to drive price competition and innovation. infrastructure for its five million customers across the country.
