18 ALLIANCES 2015 Plans to meet the challenges of Thames Water's AMP6 programme are already well underway at the company's capital delivery alliance, eight2O. Formed in May 2013, the alliance brings together a group of industry-leading partners, and this combined expertise from multiple sectors promotes best practice and efficiency across the board, championing innovation and collaboration. The partners, alongside Thames Water, include two design and build joint ventures comprising Costain, Veolia and Atkins (CVA), and Skanska, MWH and Balfour Beatty (SMB), plus MWH as the programme manager and IBM as a technology and in- novation partner. Forming eight2O two years ahead of AMP6 has been part of Thames Water's plan to ensure it can deliver better value for customers by maximising its partners' opportunities to develop ETM, the AECOM and Galliford Try joint venture, is among the eight contractor partners and three framework consultants appointed by Yorkshire Water to undertake its planned AMP6 investment programme across Yorkshire. The deal is an extension to ETM's existing AMP5 agreement with Yorkshire Water. innovative, sustainable solutions. The ECI (early contractor involvement) period is enabling early subcontractor involvement, which even at this very initial phase has resulted in 250 initiatives being put forward by potential suppliers – ideas that are currently being scoped for viability to feed ETM has worked collaboratively to provide Yorkshire Water with design and construction services for more than 15 years, throughout AMP3, AMP4 and AMP5. It is on three frameworks: Large (currently secured £95M), Medium Treatment (£61M) and Others streams (£30M). The JV said its continued appointment to the eight2O's thinking and planning. A strong focus on customer outcomes is a key difference to AMP5. Solutions have to be different with no-build alternatives being an important option, alongside more standardisa- tion, off-site manufacturing and changing operating methods across catchments. framework "is a reflection of our consistent delivery, quality work and collaborative approach". It is currently ranked top of the Medium Treatment stream in AMP5. Projects that ETM is involved with include the upgrade of Blackburn Meadows WwTW. The work has included a series of improvements to the site's storm overflow system and Don Valley pumping station. This means the site is better able to cope during heavy rainfall and that sewage-related debris is better screened out before being discharged to the river. ETM was also involved with the upgrade works at Mexborough Swinton. New additions to the site include an activated sludge plant (ASP), where oxygen and bacteria react to draw out impurities from the wastewater. New screens have also been fitted.
