26 ALLIANCES 2015 There are mixed fortunes for the two joint venture collaborations between Laing O'Rourke (LoR) and Imtech Water, Waste & Energy. LoRImtech has spent the past five years working as a Lot 1 (Clean Water Infrastructure) core contractor for one of three areas at Severn Trent Water. It has also been a Lot 3 (Non- infrastructure) reserve contractor. This alliance will continue with Severn Trent in AMP6, a‹er the utility extended the contracts with all its seven design and build contractors. However, the other joint venture, Tamesis, will disband at "the conclusion of the existing projects" at Thames Water's Beckton and Crossness treatment works. Imtech business development manager Duncan Wild- goose said Tamesis was a special joint venture for Thames Water, "and will be used in association with any future projects from Thames Water". He said Tamesis staff will move back to their parent structures as appropriate. meps brings together the programme management and project delivery background of MWH Treatment with the product design and manufacturing and operating experience of EPS Group. Its aim is to confront the challenges of AMP6 – such as outcome-based solutions, totex, customer-centric strategies; and targets for efficiency, off-site build and safety – head on by engaging with the water companies' capital delivery partners in a vertical collaboration model. This ensures that innovation and efficiency-in-delivery are elevated rapidly and transparently through to the water company and their customers. A number of efficiency initiatives have been identified and developed, each targeted at improving delivery performance on cost, programme, productivity, quality and safety. These include standardisation of products and assets; use of modular assem- blies and off-site-build techniques; whole-asset solutions offering collaborative working processes; BIM integration design; design for construction and operation; interface elimination and management; and volume-based efficiency pricing models. Behind this lies a core product portfolio that includes a broad range of solutions for settlement tanks, dosing systems, inlet works, stormwater management, biological treatment, tertiary treatment and sludge handling.
