Hampshire-based recycling firm Specialist Waste Recycling (SWR) has announced that finance director Andy Butler has been promoted to the chief executive role. Butler has been with SWR for almost four years. He replaces former chief executive Giles Whiteley, who left the company in August to form consultancy firm Orbisa. SWR has also announced the appointment of Mark Avenell as operations director, Will Keer as motor business development director and Wayne Basham as commercial director. SWR chairman Angus Mac Donald said: "I am delighted to announce these appointments. This is an exciting time of change for SWR with lots of development on the horizon. All appoint- ments reflect SWR's drive for innovation within these specific areas. I am confident that we have a very capable set of individu- als at the top of the business driving this development and I look forward to seeing the company progress and grow in the coming years." Plastics recycling, export and logistics firm CK Group has announced that David Barber has been named divisional director of CK Services. CK Services distributes wheeled bins on behalf of local authorities. Barber, who joined CK Group as general manager in 2011, has more than 30 years of experience within the logistics sector. He will be responsible for the running of the CK Services business, which collects wheeled bins and containers from local authorities at the end of their lives for processing at a CK Group plastics recycling facility. Ernst and Young has appointed landfill tax special- ist Paul O'Neill as the firm's senior manager. In a statement, the financial services firm states that it is hoping to continue to grow its speciality tax business in the UK. With 11 years' experience, Paul O'Neill joins the firm as a senior manager following an eight year spell at KPMG and three years with HMRC. He will advise clients across the UK on environmental tax issues such as landfill tax, aggregates levy, climate change levy and air passenger duty. Paul O'Neill said: "It's the ideal time to be joining EY's growing tax practice, given continued and significant change to environ- mental taxes. "I'm particularly looking forward to providing a fresh perspec- tive to landfill tax and look forward to working closely with corpo- rate clients to help them overcome the challenges, and capitalise on the opportunities, presented by the existing complex legislation and the expected various legislative changes." Plastic recycler Closed Loop Recycling has appointed James Stapeley as its new commercial manager following the retirement of predecessor Chris White. James Stapeley has spent the past 11 years working in the waste and recycling industry, advocating the ben- efits of zero landfill. During his nine years at FCC Environment, Stapeley managed the company's energy from waste capacity for the likes of Kent County Council, Sita Surrey and Veolia East Sussex. Prior to this Stapeley was a commercial manager for European Metal Recycling, providing solutions to local authorities and large demolition firms. Previously he also held a number of sales roles. Stapeley's appointment at Closed Loop Recycling will see him overseeing the company's partnerships with its key customers and promoting the 'We Need Your Bottles' message to waste manage- ment companies and local authorities. The state-of-the-art recycler recently increased capacity at its Dagenham facility, doubling the supply of recycled HDPE to the UK market, making it the biggest recycler of milk bottles in the world. Commercial waste container services Fairport Containers has appointed Rashda Zahir as its recy- cling banks coordinator. Zahir has been given her new appointment to help support the firm's new service offering of refurbishment, remodelling, repair and manufacture of recycling banks. Rashda joins recycling banks manager, Lisa Mullally, who was appointed to head up the recycling banks service just a few months ago. Previously, Rashda worked in the transport department at a reconditioning and recycling agency, giving her a wealth of experi- ence. Rashda will be focusing on coordinating the transport logis- tics for the recycling banks and is the first point of contact for responding to and managing customer enquiries. Rashda is also responsible for quality checking refurbished banks before delivery to the customer. "The role is busy and varied and I'm quickly learning to turn my hand to anything," Zahir said. Household waste recycling centre (HWRC) suppli- er Modulo Béton has announced that Sarah Davies will join its sales team. Davies comes with strong marketing background in the plastics industry and is very enthusiastic about recycling and reuse. "With this background and enthusiasm, coupled with Sarah's desire to help find solutions in maximising the poten- tial of HWRCs, she has proved to be a very capable addition to Modulo Béton in the UK," said Davies. Outsourced services specialist Smart Solutions has appointed Kevin Thomas as its commodities and technical director. The firm is hoping to strength- en its business's commodities trading offering with its new appointment. Thomas has 25 years' experience in the waste and recycling industry. He previously worked for SCA Recycling, Biffa and Casepak, as well as holding a number of consultancy roles. The newly created position of commodities and technical direc- tor will see Thomas head up Smart's trading offering, in which the commodities team buys recyclate materials to sell to reprocessors in the UK and internationally.
