ADVERTISEMENT FEATURE CASE SCENARIO A site operating two macera- tors and dewatering units to manage screenings required frequent maintenance and attention to deal with block- ages. Additionally, the frequent turnover of replacement parts was costing around £15,000pa, excluding labour. This together with the energy requirement to operate the system had become very apparent and was recorded as a high OPEX asset needing attention. T he Ovivo ® screw compactor is based on the original Jones+Attwood design which has a proven record of reliability and robustness. This design now receives flows from water powered launders and dry screenings transfer operations. Featuring a 9 mm thick drainage trough, this rugged design is more accommodating to abrasive conditions than perforated plate alternatives. 6 mm tapered holes for improved drainage contribute to the compactor's low OPEX. Competitively priced, the Ovivo screw compactor is presented with lower TOTEX in mind. OVIVO ® SCREW COMPACTOR DOING IT RIGHT SINCE 1986. Above: An Ovivo ® screw compactor discharge. Installed in February 2014 the Ovivo screw compactor replaced the existing equipment and has operated without any operator intervention. Prior to the installation we noted the power consumption of the existing plant. Since the installation a power saving of 60% has been achieved. Other than routine inspection, OPEX is expected to be low, requiring brushes at £300 after 2-3 years. "It is not often that we are asked to supply equipment to the original specifications. But on this occasion, simplicity, robustness and low maintenance were key influencers which lead Ovivo to re-launch a timeless classic compactor." – Brian Powers, Ovivo Product Development Manager. The cost saving benefit in this instance is in the order of £ 11,200 assuming a 2 year period and £26,200 in a 3 year period.
