October 2014 Local Authority Waste & Recycling 23 in the CoP. He explains that the transi- tion has been smooth and it has only had to tweak its bin sizes. Bin sizes have changed from 40 kilos to 60 kilos to meet the requirements of the CoP. Casepak has a dedicated sampling area to do this "safely and efficiently", according to Bradbury. It has a two- deck sampling conveyor and 660L bins, which are weighed. Elsewhere at the MRF, quality inspec- tions happen every week and it receives 2,400t of material every week. There is a deadline on how long materials can stay in their bays. They can only be on site for a maximum of six days before they are processed. Bradbury says: "We like our materials fresh. The physical aspects of materials can change if they are left out for too long. For exam- ple, the composition of old corrugated cardboard can change and deteriorate, which makes it difficult to process." Overall, it seems that Casepak has a handle on its MRF and is continuously improving and generating high quality material. Bradbury says: "We treat our MRF like a production process and we do not just throw materials at it. We focus on the 'ins', the middle and the 'outs'. You can squeeze much more out of the process if you understand what is happening on your tipping floor. The Code of Practice is a good thing to hap- pen because it's giving everybody infor- mation to see what is truly going on."
